About Us

The Office of Ombudsman in the province of Punjab was established in September, 1996, through an Ordinance, later replaced by the Punjab Office of the Ombudsman Act, 1997. Through this legislative and administrative framework, the Provincial Ombudsman Punjab (POP) is charged with the responsibility of protecting the rights of the people, ensuring adherence to the rule of law, diagnosing, redressing and rectifying any injustice done to a person through maladministration and suppressing corrupt practices. It provides an inexpensive and quick redressal forum for the citizens aggrieved by maladministration of provincial government agencies/functionaries.

The present Ombudsman, Mr. Khalid Mahmood, was sworn in as the 5th Ombudsman of the Punjab in December, 2008, for a four year tenure. The initiative for establishing the Children Complaint Office (CCO) in the Ombudsman Secretariat was taken in May, 2009, in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
